“Jesus, Prince of Peace,
you have asked us to love our enemies
and pray for those who persecute us.
We pray for our enemies and those who oppose us.
With the help of the Holy Spirit,
may all people learn to work together
for that justice which brings true and lasting peace.
To you be glory and honor for ever and ever” (from Catholic Online).
I can only add one thing:
Lord, when it’s easiest to malign and slander our enemies, help us to remember that we too were once your enemies, far from hope and foreigners to the Promise. Help us to remember how you chose not to condemn us but to pursue us and rescue us from ourselves and our sin.
Lord, may we remember that our battle is still not against flesh and blood but against all the powers and principalities of the air, the spiritual forces of the evil one.
Lord, above all, help us to remember that love is still stronger than hate and that ultimately, no matter what the score is right now, love still wins.
